TOURISM, TRANSPORT and COMMUNICATION UNIT of the Bureau is responsible for the compilation, processing, analysis and presentation
of tourism and transport data.
Tourism is a fast growing sector in the Gambian economy. It is therefore important that reliable, accurate and
timely statistics about the sector are made available for policy formulation, planning, regulation, marketing
monitoring and evaluation of the tourism sector.
Efficient transport is a critical component of economic development, globally and nationally. Transport
availability affects development patterns and can be a boost or a barrier to economic growth of a country.
Information Communication Technology:
If we are to keep the promises made in the Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty and improve poor
people's lives then policymakers must recognize the essential role played by information and communication
in development. Therefore, the need timely and reliable communication statistics cannot be overemphasize
The Gambia Bureau of Statistics (GBoS) in fulfilling its mandate as the source of official information is glad
to release this Tourism and Transport Summary Report. The current report presents the most important findings
based on information collected from Immigration, GTB, GPA and GCAA for the years 2008 to 2012.
The GBoS wishes to recognize and appreciate the support from sister government ministries and institutions.
These include the Gambia Immigration Department, Gambia Police Force in the Ministry of Interior, the Gambia
Tourism Board, Gambia Ports Authority and the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority.
